At the Università degli Studi di Perugia the official language of instruction is Italian, though some courses at the Department are taught in English. However, International students are strongly advised to have a good command of Italian (at least B1 level), or alternatively, to attend an Italian language course before beginning courses at the university. At least a B2 level in English is required to enroll in the Migration, Globalisation and World Governance program of the MsC in International Relations.
The Department offers courses in English, French and Spanish Language and Translation, and collaborates with the University Language Center (CLA, Centro Linguistico di Ateneo), which provides basic linguistic instruction in these and other languages.
First Level Degree in Political Sciences and International Relations, and in Communication Sciences
English is mandatory as a first foreign language, and the course takes place in the first semester of the second year. In order to attend the course and take the exam, all students must produce a valid international certificate, or pass the B1 level test at the CLA. To prepare for the test, students can attend English language classes at the CLA during the first year.
A second foreign language is required for the degree in Political Sciences and International Relations. International students whose native language is not Italian can choose Italian as a second foreign language. In order to do so, they must go to the Students Office and fill in an application, then attend classes of Italian as a foreign language at the CLA from their first year. Credits are granted on passing the C1 level test at the CLA. Alternatively, they can choose as a second language French or Spanish (the courses are taught in the third year), which require a previous B1 level (B1 test at the CLA or international certificate), or choose from the following languages, for which the level required is indicated in parenthesis: German (B1), Portuguese (B1+), Chinese (A2), Russian (A2). Courses and tests for these languages take place at the CLA.
First Level Degree in Social Service
Students must pass the B1 level test at the CLA for either English, French or Spanish.
Second Level Degree in International Relations
English is mandatory, and the course takes place in the first semester of the second year. In order to attend the course and take the exam, all students must have a valid international certificate, or pass the B2 level test at the CLA. To prepare for the test, students can attend English language classes at the CLA during the first year. The Migration, Globalisation and World Governance program of the MsC in International Relations is held completely in English. The foreign language requirement is fulfilled by taking a course in French, Arabic or Chinese.
