The educational program foresees the acquisition of 180 ECTS in total, distributed as follows:
FIRST YEAR (November 1-October 31)
In the first year, doctoral students are required to follow curricular courses and seminars held by invited speakers. Continuous presence in Perugia is required when curricular teaching takes place (January-May and September-October). A good knowledge of Italian and English languages is required.
Each student is assigned a Tutor, under whose guidance the topic and structure of the doctoral thesis must be defined.
In the last month of the first year, each student must present a paper to the Board in written form. In order to be admitted to the second year, 60 ECTS must be acquired according to the following scheme, based on a report validated by the Coordinator and Tutor:

SECOND YEAR (November 1-October 31)
In the second year, doctoral students are required to spend no less than one month, and are strongly encouraged to spend at least one semester of research abroad, taking advantage of the existing conventions or independently, and enjoying the bonus 50% of the scholarship. They are required to follow at least 5 seminars.
In the last month of the second year, each student must publicly present a part of the thesis to the Board. For admission to the following year, 60 ECTS must be acquired according to the following scheme, based on a report validated by the Coordinator and Tutor:

THIRD YEAR (November 1-October 31)
In the third year, the doctoral students are required to follow at least 5 seminars. They will prepare and submit to the Board the doctoral thesis by 15 October, thus acquiring the last 60 ECTS.
